Is Singapore a nation or a state?

"A state..." I said, much to my own surprise. It just felt like the best answer at that point in time; a statement which I could easily defend, but not necessarily one which I believed in. This question is a tough one because it's impossible to survey 4 million people and tick their responses on a "nation-qualifying" checklist to see where we stand exactly. Even if we had the resources to do so, I would not be surprised to see a majority of the respondents turning back and ask what actually defines a nation.

Skip all the boring definitions of nation and state came up by Harvard professors. Personally, it's just a communal and homely feeling which sets a nation apart from a state. The S 21 committee defined it by referring to the 5 Fs - Family, Friends, Food, Familiarity and Future. Not surprisingly, even the way we work out our national identity is so Singaporean - concise, but over-simplistic at times.

Overseas Sg unit, National Education, Social Studies... There is just so much the Govt can do. The rest is up to how parents educate their kids. The Catholics have a way with this. Catch a child in his formative years and implant him with a set of values, experiences and beliefs , and this will get you a person for life.

Now, what would you tell your kid the next time you see him?

Engin camp was a hell lot of fun baby!

hmmm made a few friends! haha I think it would takes ages to describe what happened for those past few days so I shall not attempt to.

Anyway life's so good now, since I have already decided to S/U my next module. This coupled with the fact that I can put my gek 1535, which I think I had fared terribly in, under the business degree.

Next will be rag. After seeing how badly I danced on Thursday, I am starting to have doubts being a rag dancer. I think I shall just stick with float building.

Had pre camp briefing today and i brought back a present from a xiao zhar bo.

I knew her as dhoby ghaut cos that was the station she used to play those games. RIght and I was KOVAN.
Ok I didn't even know her name until my friends told me over lunch.
Anyway, the slaps the thigh so hard as though she wanted to pound it into mince meat.
ARGHZ ok lar we're quits since i sunk my nails into her arms when pinching her. My wounds are more visible though.

How often do you feel life is doing injustice to you?
I guess this happens when you have nothing other than plenty of time and wandering mind.

Helped out at RAG today with a pathetic few others. We played a prank on this person who called me to promote the engin camp. My new found friends/younger-than-me-because-they-din-have-to-serve-NS seniors asked me to call the person after I hung up. (p.s they know the person who called cos they're all in the camp committee or something.) This time we were going to ask her to allow my 2 fictitious girlfriends to come for the camp also. We demanded to be in the same OG and gosh their acting were great esp for S who totally resembled a chao ah lian. Haha poor thing... kena tricked by us. They felt really bad after that. =P

I highlighted my hair!!!

Ok the colour is not very obvious from the photo.. sigh... hahah HIGHLY INSPIRED BY ning qi's new hairdo... i decided to go highlight since i had nothing to do today...

I was such a suaku at the salon...

They hairdresser used some scraping technique thing to make the hair sharper.. he used this blade to scrap against strands of hair to make the ends sharper.. so that they can look more "lively"... Then he asked me after seeing the grimace on my face..."very pain ah?" haha hmm.. all was written on my face man... I avoided answering that question directly by asking him what he was using.


Today was such a boring day and tomorrow is not going to be any better... hAI... kan kai dian ba...
