Yep BACK from KL...
I am not trying to be arrogant but it's when you've been overseas that you realise just how organised Singapore is. Yi Peng's mother was commenting how "ROBOTIC" Singapore is and that I couldn't deny. I guess it's the way we are brought up and I personally cannot tolerate disorder. I mean it's not that Malaysia is messy but it just has "lesser rules". Right I suck at explaining this...
DO YOU DARE DRIVE IN MALAYSIA?
I fell sick in Malaysia. After drinking the iced mocha in some-god-knows-what-name shopping centre, I started to lao sai... and develop a mild cold. Ok I think I was gonna fall sick and it had nothing to do with mocha actually. SO with that, I missed my cheap cheap movie in KL and my caramel POPCORN (which ecyn reminded me of). hmm... WEI i know you are reading this... DID you get anything for me from BANGKOK?

I found Yi Peng's FRIENDSTER!!!!
Ok you guys must be wondering who Yi Peng is. She is this childhood friend of mine. hmm since P3? BUT we lost contact... well probably cos of me... 5 years ago. I have been searching for her contact since last year.. Erm not very actively though. THIS VERY FATEFUL NIGHT before I leave for KL I found her friendster; and of course I messaged her.
She's now in KL and I REALLY REALLY hope by some stroke of luck she sees the message I left her in time and calls me when I am in KL...
*PRAY FOR ME FRIENDS*
Oh well...
Wenyang was telling me how the seniors sang to us the song about Huang Cheng Liang Zai Duo Duan Cu... hHA how true... I think I didn't enjoy my JC days to the max...
Oh I am feeling so melancholic tonight... What's wrong with me?

Am I really that SKINNY? Do I really have to put on some weight?
It's been haunting me - people telling me I am too skinny. For the past month, I have been receiving skinny related comments more often than ever. ARGHz... Actually it wasn't that irritating when people say I am skinny. I take it as a compliment =). I mean it's cool looking slim and yang guang nan haiz are generally skinny.
The BBQ was at West Coast. Believe or not, it was my first time at West Coast. I used to think West Coast was some deserted beach with lallang so tall you need a parang to bash through. Of course, as most of you know, this is not the case but the spoiler was that I didn't even catch a glimpse of the sea! There was construction so the entire seaview was blocked out by zinc walls which separated the park from the sand.
The Chix Wings I BBQed managed to win the hearts of many erm. aunties? ahhaa Yea, I am not sure if they were just polite but they kept singing praises of my chix.
We've all grown up. They say nv3 da4 shi2 ba1 bian4. I cannot agree to it more. MY cousins are so matured now; gone were the days of catching and erm... senseless crying.
TANG YUAN.. Have you eaten yours? =)
BTW BTW... MA LA HUO @ KALLANG MRT IS THE BEST... If you guys wanna jio ppl go ma la... go for the one opposite the bus depot at kallang. Free flow of drinks and even had TANG YUAN on DOng zhi. The soup is good, the dumplings are cute (i love the jiu3 cai4 inside), the condiments are plentiful (i love the peanut sauce), the variety is great (even had pigs heart, pig kidney, lamb cubes and they are fresh). MOst importantly, it's not hot and crammed.

Yay! I am going back to RI tomorrow for my pre relief teaching briefing! AND I saw from the website that, coincidentally, tomorrow is also the Sec 1 registration day so I can expect lots of CUTE LIL pri-school-soon-to-be-sec-school kids bumming around in school.
The thought of relief teaching from 2 Jan onwards had somehow brighten me up for the last 2 days . Of course, not to forget, reading funkygrad.com's interesting articles, which were written with so much zest as though they were gonna be some honours year thesis, did help. If you've not read them, it's time you spend a few minutes reading the SHOUT section on the webbie.
2 more days at work for me.

Here's what John should do:
Since John knows the prices of Tau Gua and Tau Pok are going to SURGE, he should go on a long straddle for Tau Pok by buying a put contract for the Tau Pok. Now he owns a put and a call contract for Tau Pok. Thus, if the price of Tau Pok goes up, the price of his call contract will increase and this will allow him to use the profit to cover the premium paid for the contracts and the cost of the Tau Gua. The logic is the same if the price of Tau Pok falls. On top of this, he should also acquire a future contract for Tau Pok before the price rises. If, however, the price of the Tau Pok/Gua remain unchanged/changes negligibly, he will be in deep manure. He will then lose the premiums for the 3 contracts and miss his Tau Gua.
I don't think anyone is interested in this so just take it with a pinch of sugar.. erm i mean salt..

Pakistani boy leads scientists to pain discovery
By Patricia Reaney
LONDON (Reuters) - A young Pakistani street performer and members of three related families have enabled scientists to make a genetic breakthrough that could lead to more effective painkillers.
During his short life, the unnamed boy never felt pain. He was a local celebrity in northern Pakistan where he astonished crowds by plunging knives through his arms and walking on burning coals. He died on his 14th birthday after jumping from a roof.
By studying his case, and other individuals from families in the same clan, researchers have discovered that they all had a rare inherited genetic mutation that stopped them feeling pain.
"All six affected individuals had never felt any pain, at any time, in any part of their body," said Dr Geoffrey Woods, of the University of Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) in England.
The mutation Woods and his collaborators in Britain and Pakistan have discovered is on a gene called SCN9A. It stops a sodium channel, which produces nerve impulses that convey pain signals to the brain, from functioning. So the otherwise healthy individuals do not experience pain.
Woods, who reported the discovery in the journal Nature, said drugs that block the function of the channel "have the potential to produce new and potentially safer analgesia."
The drug company Pfizer Inc. already has a new pain relief product in preclinical development based on the genetic discovery.
Although it hurts, pain is a useful sensation because it warns people of danger and injury or if something is too hot or too cold. It also has a survival benefit because when people begin to feel pain they change their behavior to avoid it.
Even as babies, none of the individuals with the genetic mutation felt pain. Their appearance, hearing and vision were normal but all had injuries to their lips or tongue caused by biting themselves when they were babies or toddlers. Two had painless scalds as young children.
Dr John Wood, of University College London and a co-author of the study, said the discovery is potentially as important as the identification of morphine and opiate receptors two decades ago which improved understanding about how drugs work and led to the discovery of chemicals in the body that control pain.
"The discovery is really striking. No other single gene deletion has such a dramatic effect on pain perception without other deleterious consequences," Wood said in an interview.

We are gonna get a few MBT (main battle tanks) in our Arsenal finally. Yesterday MINDEF announced that it's going to acquire 66 Leopard 2A4 MBTs and another 30 as spares with delivery due next year. Although I am not in Armour, I am feeling an unexplained EXCITEMENT in me.
You may be wondering what in the world is wrong with me but before you close this window, look at these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_2#Leopard_2A4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PT-91_TwardyCompare these 2... Please don't ask me why I chose Twardy for comparison with Leopard because it's just pure conincidence... No erm... underlying meaning...
Leopard is going give our Armour the extra PUNCH and you will discover that the old saying "break-out and break-down" has so much truth in it. In this case, the enemy breaks down.

The date today is 31 Dec 2007.
On the 1st of Jan 2007, John went to the market and bought a call contract for 1 x Tau Pok, at 5 cents, which he may want to exercise on 18th Feb 2007 so that he could secure a good price for his Tau Pok for the CNY Steamboat Dinner in 2007. It was agreed that the strike price of the Tau Pok would be 30cents; the spot price of Tau Pok on 1st Jan was 20cents.
However, on 20 Jan, John decided not to have Tau Pok for dinner, instead, he suddenly had the craving for Tau Gua. At that point in time, the price of Tau Pok had risen slightly from 20cents to 23cents. This trend was expected as the demand for Tau Pok has risen but there were rumours going on that the Taus production in Antartica has been badly hit by bugs thus all related products like Tau Nee, Tau Gua, Tau Pok, Tau Suan, Tau You etc may experience a soar in prices.
On the other hand, the OTPC, Organisation for Tau Producing Countries, has pledged to open up their Tau reserves so that the Tau supplies will not be affected for the holidays season. However OTPC is notorious for making mistakes in calculating the optimal release of Tau to offset previous increases resulting in the plummeting of Tau prices previously. However the Aunties at the markets analyzed that, whatever the course of action, the Tau prices will change at least 15cents.
With all this in mind... WHAT SHOULD JOHN DO SO THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE TO PAY EXTRA TO ENJOY HIS TAU GUA on CNY??

My honeymoon period for a new song is usually 3 days but this song has survived almost a week already. I can't exactly remember when I first heard this song but my instincts tell me that it was probably one of those songs played in the old HK serials because I vaguely remembered there was a Canto version, which sounded just as fabulous. I simply love for the first few verses...
If I had to live my life w/o you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long...
Ohz... MELTED...
Midnight sun... There is movie which Jayce is recommending on his blog and it's named Midnight Sun - oxymoron. It tells the story of a girl suffering from some kinda disease which causes her to be sensitive to sunlight and yada yada yada; the story develops.
Bon voyage JL... erm doubt you will read this but hey at least I said it.
Though my stomach had been brewing some storm for the past few days, I had TomYUm for lunch. The feeling of having something HOT and SPICY (sour too) on a rainy day is enough compensate the risk of some hiroshima bombing in the toilet.
OH the deep fried dough fritters WERE SUPERB. They were the best dough fritters I EVER had; not too oily; not squishy. The Tau Huay and You Tiao combination was heavenly. No wonder JJ came up with a song for them.

I don't really understand what some of the qualities referred to but, well, they sound interesting
Benjamin Franklin sought to cultivate his character by a plan of thirteen virtues, which he developed at age 20 (in 1726) and continued to practice in some form for the rest of his life. His autobiography (see references below) lists his thirteen virtues as:
"TEMPERANCE. Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation."
"SILENCE. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation."
"ORDER. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time."
"RESOLUTION. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve."
"FRUGALITY. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing."
"INDUSTRY. Lose no time; be always employ'd in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions."
"SINCERITY. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly."
"JUSTICE. Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty."
"MODERATION. Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve."
"CLEANLINESS. Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation."
"TRANQUILLITY. Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable."
"CHASTITY. Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation."
"HUMILITY. Imitate Jesus and Socrates."

According to a study done by Herrnstein & Murray (God knows who they are) the percentage of people, who get married before 30 and have an IQ of above 125, is only 67%. This is compared to 72% in the range of 110 - 125, 81% for 75 - 110 and 72% for less than 75.

Something just didn't have to be spelt out. Why did you force an answer then?
I hate myself for being impulsive.
I hate myself for being insensitive.
I hate myself for being aggressive.
I hate myself.
Today is a bad day for me. Bad days always warrant very long entries; I wonder how long this entry will be. Short I guess because there is nothing I can write here without questions being shot at me.
Well let me tell you a story which is rather no link to why I am sad today.
Darius told me this story which his BC related:
Once there was a carpenter who was very skilful. He was working for years for a rich man in town who was in the business of building houses. This carpenter built splendid furniture for the houses of the rich man. One day the carpenter wanted to retire so he told his wish to the rich man. The rich man pleaded for the carpenter to finish the last house before he left and the carpenter agreed. However, the carpenter thought he was going to leave regardless whether he did a good job or not so the furniture he produced for the house were substandard. Finally he completed all the furniture and he asked the rich men if he could leave.
"These are the keys to your new house" the rich men said, passing a bunch of keys to him.
Life is filled with regrets which are most probably the result of our own actions. Sometimes, regrets are inflicted intentionally and, at times, they are not.
The road ahead is not so easy, I will need a guiding star.

The original version was sung by Glen Medeiros; this version was by Alex Toh. It's not groovy as compared to Medeiros but I just cannot find his hosted anywhere.
Here are the lyrics:
If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever..
oh so clearly I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong
Our dreams are young and we both know
They'll take us where we want to go
Hold me now
Touch me now
I don't want to live without you
Nothings gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more then your love
Nothings gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
The world may change my whole life thru but
Nothings gonna change my love for you
If the road ahead is not so easy
Our love will lead the way for us
Like a guiding star
I'll be there for you
If you should need me
You don't have to change a thing
I love you just the way you are
So come with me and share the view
I'll help you see forever too
Hold me now
Touch me now
I don't want to live without you
Nothings gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love
Nothings gonna change my love for you
You ought to know by now how much I love you
The world may change my whole life thru but
Nothings gonna change my love for you
Today I spent the entire afternoon packing the storeroom and running errand for colleagues. The storeroom was in a rather miserable state before the tidying. Though it is still crammed with boxes and artifacts from the previous team, there is at least a walking path which I have managed to open. wah. That sounded like opening MSR in Engineer Ops.. nvm that's besides the point.
Have I told you? After surfing the website of the various banks in Sg, I am highly motivated to work in JP Morgan. The way the testimonials were written delineates the bank like a WARZONE which is very appealing to ME! I love the idea chasing time when I work because it brings thrill and keeps me awake. Their career progression looks pretty good - on average 3 years to to associate, 3 years to VP - and good performance will accelerate the progress as they have promised. It's a huge MNC with offices scattered all over the globe. Job rotation, which will most likely keep me excited, to different countries is also very common.
HAHA! YEA! I shall apply for internship to JP Morgan in my final year.
